Cory and his wife Ashley at the Plain of Six Glaciers, Banff National Park. |
Cory (C.W.) Gross is a professional
educator with 20 years of experience in the field of museums and
heritage. An Alberta native from a ranching family, Cory grew up in
and around Calgary. His parents instilled a love of history and
culture in him from an early age, and fully supported his ambition to
become a palaeontologist when he grew up. After graduating high
school, he studied geology at Mount Royal University and from there
transferred into the Museum and Heritage Studies program at the
University of Calgary. Cory was awarded his Bachelor of Arts with
Distinction in 2005. In 2010 he was awarded a Masters of Theological
Studies from Lutheran Theological Seminary – Saskatoon. Most recently, Cory served as 2021 Historian in Residence for the Calgary Public Library and Heritage Calgary. He has
previously worked at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary Zoo, Fort Calgary, and Heritage Park, where he
received the Blue Ribbon Award for Customer Service Excellence. He is
also certified with the Banff’s Best Heritage Orientation program and a graduate of the University of Alberta's Dino 101: Dinosaur Paleobiology course.
Committed to community service and public education, Cory serves as
president and public outreach coordinator of the Alberta Palaeontological Society, a speaker for the Chinook Country Historical Society, and a council member of Historic Trinity Lutheran Church.
In his spare time he also writes a weblog devoted to Victorian
Science Fiction and has become an acknowledged expert on early
dinosaur films. When not travelling via cyberspace, Cory has a
passion for real world travel and his journeys have taken him to
Japan, Madagascar, France, California, Yellowstone, and Arizona. Somehow, on top of
all of this, he managed to marry his beloved wife Ashley in August
of 2014.
